Minister Troy and Minister English announce funding of €9.3m for successful applicants of Regional Enterprise Transition Scheme

Ministers of State with the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Robert Troy TD and Damien English TD, today announced the successful projects under the government’s Regional Enterprise Transition Scheme (RETS). The Scheme assists regional projects affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and by other regional challenges following the UK’s departure from the EU.

Delivered for the government through Enterprise Ireland, the RETS, which was launched in July, targets existing regional and community-based projects previously supported under the Regional Enterprise Development Fund and Border Enterprise Development Fund.

The 24 successful projects demonstrated the ability to deliver additional impact and execute project deliverables in the current year and will receive over €9.3m in funding. The Fund focuses on improving the capability and competitiveness of regional enterprises and encouraging entrepreneurial activity, sustainability, innovation, and productivity.

Minister of State for Trade Promotion, Digital and Company Regulation, Robert Troy TD said:

"It’s a great pleasure to announce the worthy recipients of the Regional Enterprise Transition Scheme with funding totalling over €9.3 million. Regional development is a priority for me and for this government, and this fund focuses on supporting projects with regional impact in order to increase internationalisation opportunities and create sustainable job opportunities right across the country.

"Crucially, the Regional Enterprise Transition Scheme will help build additional resilience in the regions and enable recipients to support enterprises and SMEs to respond to recent economic and market challenges which also includes the transition to a low carbon economy, digital transformation and sustainability."

Minister of State for Business, Employment and Retail, Damien English TD said:

"I want to congratulate the successful applicants from across the country that have been approved for funding today. I am very pleased that the Scheme is continuing to help collaborative, enterprise capability building projects that have previously benefitted from the Regional and Border Enterprise Development Funds, to advance entrepreneurship, productivity and innovation particularly in the context of Brexit and COVID-19 challenges.

"By continuously working with our stakeholders Government can continue to strengthen the enterprise development capabilities of our Regions, and it is this process that has led to the strong initiatives that have attracted more than €9.3 million in government investment today. This additional level of funding is firmly aligned with our national enterprise policy and related government policy initiatives, including the Regional Enterprise Plans, remote working strategy, the Climate Action Plan and digitalisation."

Leo Clancy, CEO, Enterprise Ireland said:

"Supporting enterprises to build scale and expand reach is a key focus of Enterprise Ireland and the Regional Enterprise Transition Fund helps us to further drive growth in key sectors in counties across the country, particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic recovery. The successful applicants represent a broad range of projects across a variety of sectors including food, agri-tech and lifesciences. Our aim is to build on a strong regional ecosystem to include a variety of regionally based projects with best in class physical and digital infrastructure and appropriate research and technology capability."
