Community Facilities Scheme

The Community Facilities Scheme provided small-scale grants for community groups all across Ireland. It operated alongside other schemes and programmes already in place in communities, but groups were permitted to only use the funding for capital projects, or part of a capital project. The Scheme was administered on behalf of the Department by Local Community Development Committees under the remit of the Local Authorities.

The Communities Facilities Scheme was targeted at disadvantaged urban and rural areas and provided small-scale grants for community groups all across Ireland. It funded projects that sought to enhance communities, address disadvantage and improve social cohesion at a local level. It operated alongside other schemes and programmes already in place in communities, but groups were permitted to only use the funding for capital projects, or part of a capital project. It sought to address some of the difficulties local community groups very often face in accessing small scale levels of funding to match their own fundraising efforts, in order to get community projects off the ground. The Scheme was administered on behalf of the Department by Local Community Development Committees under the remit of the Local Authorities.
