Information note on Government cooperation with legacy institutions

In 2014, the Irish and British Governments together with the Northern Ireland Executive parties took part in 11 weeks of political talks, resulting in the Stormont House Agreement of 23 December 2014. The Stormont House Agreement covers a broad range of political, social and economic issues and includes significant and agreed proposals for dealing with the past in Northern Ireland.

The next step in the implementation of the 2014 Stormont House Agreement is a UK public consultation on their draft legislation to establish a set of institutions to deal with legacy issues in Northern Ireland. The public consultation was launched on Friday 11 May. The Tánaiste and the Minister for Justice and Equality issued a joint statement to welcome the move.

This information note is intended to complement the UK public consultation by outlining the measures the Irish Government will take to cooperate with the Stormont House Agreement institutions, and to facilitate further cooperation with legacy inquests in Northern Ireland.
