The 2025 Global Ireland Schools Programme takes place today, Friday 9 May. Heads of Ireland’s diplomatic missions will visit 33 secondary schools around the country to meet with students and to discuss Ireland’s place in the world and the work undertaken by Ireland’s Embassies and Consulates overseas.
Schools from the following counties will participate in the 2025 Global Ireland Schools programme: Armagh, Carlow, Cork, Clare, Donegal, Dublin, Galway, Kerry, Kildare, Kilkenny, Limerick, Meath, Westmeath, Sligo, Tipperary, Waterford and Wicklow.
The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Simon Harris said:
"The Global Ireland Schools programme is about empowering our young people to see themselves as global citizens. Through engagement with our diplomatic network, secondary school students can gain a deeper understanding of Ireland’s role in the world. In today’s volatile geopolitical landscape, it’s more important than ever that our young people understand Ireland’s global role and values.”
The visits will give students the opportunity to learn about Ireland’s engagement overseas. Over 200 schools have engaged with the programme since its launch in December 2018.
