Liechtenstein visit undertaken by Minister Byrne

Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence, Thomas Byrne TD, is today (11 February) visiting Liechtenstein. In Vaduz, the capital of Liechtenstein, Minister Byrne will meet with the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sabine Monauni, and with His Serene Highness Alois, Hereditary Prince of Liechtenstein.

The Minister’s meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Liechtenstein will provide an opportunity to exchange perspectives on Ireland and Liechtenstein’s policy priorities, in the context of Ireland’s forthcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU, and Liechtenstein’s Presidency of the European Economic Area Council.

Minister Byrne’s courtesy call on His Serene Highness Alois, Hereditary Prince of Liechtenstein, will underline Ireland’s warm bilateral relations with Liechtenstein.

Commenting on the visit, Minister Byrne said: “I am delighted to visit Liechtenstein, a country with a small, but active, Irish community. I intend to work closely with Liechtenstein during their Presidency of the European Economic Area Council, which overlaps with Ireland’s EU Presidency. Now, more than ever, I believe it is essential to ensure the smooth functioning of the single market and promote the strong relationship that exists between EU and EEA countries. I greatly look forward to deepening our ties with Liechtenstein during my visit to Vaduz.”
