Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Helen McEntee TD, is in Paris today for talks with French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot. During the visit, the two Ministers will sign and officially launch a new France–Ireland Joint Strategic Framework covering the period 2026 to 2030.
The new Framework sets out a shared ambition to deepen and strengthen the relationship between Ireland and France. It builds on the success of the first Joint Plan of Action agreed in 2021, which helped drive strong growth in trade, business links and wider cooperation between the two countries.
Speaking ahead of the meeting, Minister McEntee said: “It’s a real pleasure to be in Paris to sign and launch this new Framework. Over the past five years, our engagement with France has grown significantly, and our trade and business links have expanded at a remarkable pace.
“This new Framework, running to 2030, will allow us to build even further on that momentum, while also drawing on the deep historic, sporting and cultural ties that connect our two countries.
“I’m very much looking forward to working closely with my French counterparts to turn this ambition into action, particularly as Ireland prepares for its Presidency of the EU later this year, when France will be a key partner in delivering a positive European agenda.”
Against the backdrop of major international developments, the Ministers will also discuss a range of global issues, including transatlantic relations, the situation in the Middle East and international support for Ukraine.
Minister McEntee added: “I look forward to wide-ranging and constructive discussions with Minister Barrot on the most pressing challenges facing Ireland, France and the European Union.”
