Minister McEntee meets with U.S. Trade Representative Greer and Deputy National Security Adviser Baker in Washington D.C.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Helen McEntee TD, today (4 February) held meetings with U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer and Deputy National Security Adviser Andy Baker in Washington, D.C. The meetings took place as part of the Minister’s two-day programme of political, economic and community engagements in the U.S. capital.

Speaking after the meetings, Minister McEntee said: “I appreciated the opportunity to meet again with Ambassador Greer. We discussed the progress made to date on implementing last year’s EU-U.S. Joint Statement, as well as next steps in that regard. I also took the opportunity to update Ambassador Greer on Ireland’s plans for our EU Presidency, beginning in July. We agreed to maintain dialogue on key trade issues in the period ahead.”

“In my meeting with Deputy National Security Adviser Baker we discussed a range of international issues, including the situation in the Middle East and efforts to end Russian aggression in Ukraine. On the Middle East, I emphasised the urgency of addressing the on-going humanitarian situation and ensuring the Palestinian Authority is fully engaged. I welcomed the continued American efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace that respects Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence.

“I also welcomed the commencement of discussions in relation to Greenland and reiterated Ireland’s solidarity with Denmark and the people of Greenland. Finally, I updated the Deputy National Security Advisor on issues related to Northern Ireland, including the implementation of the Joint Framework on Legacy.”
