Minister McEntee strengthens Ireland’s international teams to support market diversification strategy

The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Helen McEntee TD, today announced new staffing resources to deepen Ireland’s footprint in the USA and in key markets globally.

Minister McEntee said: “I am delighted to announce the reinforcement of our Embassy and Consulates General across the USA and in key locations around the world with the decision to assign new officers to promote Global Ireland and our trade and foreign policy priorities.

“This is a clear response to shifting global challenges and opportunities. It also follows the commitment made in Budget 2025 to provide greater support for international market diversification.

“I am determined to invest in our global presence so that we can best promote and protect Ireland’s values and interests. The decision to deepen existing Embassies and Consulates General in key locations is happening at the same time as we are expanding our network with two further new diplomatic missions to open next year in Melbourne and Malaga.

“Our enhanced diplomatic network is supporting Irish citizens and businesses around the world to promote Ireland as a place to visit, work, invest and do business.”

Notes:

In the United States, additional officers will be posted to our Consulates General in Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, New York and Los Angeles. We will also further increase our human resources in Washington DC. New diplomatic posts are also being established within our existing Embassies in India, the United Arab Emirates, Austria (given presence of UN organisations), Switzerland, Jordan and New Zealand.

Ireland’s diplomatic network comprises 105 missions around the world. Since 2018, under the Global Ireland Strategy, 25 new missions have opened. During 2026, new Consulates General will open in Malaga and Melbourne.
