Tánaiste speaks to new UK Foreign Secretary

Tánaiste Simon Harris has spoken this morning with the new UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper.

The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade warmly congratulated the Foreign Secretary on her new role and looks forward to building on the positive relationship with her predecessor David Lammy.

They spoke about the Ireland-UK summit earlier this year and the positive relationship between the two countries since the reset this time last year.

The Tánaiste invited the Foreign Secretary to meet with him in Dublin on her way to the Berlin Process Foreign Ministers meeting in Hillsborough next month.

They both condemned the horrific attacks in Ukraine over the weekend. They also discussed the situation in the Middle East with the Foreign Secretary noting that the UK will host President Abbas and President Herzog this week.

Both said they would keep in touch and looked forward to meeting in person in the near future.
