Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Simon Harris has welcomed the delivery of food parcels for approximately 42,000 people in Gaza by Ireland.
Over 8,400 parcels of healthy and nutritious food have been transported into Gaza by road by Plan International Ireland with support from Irish Aid. Each parcel can provide two meals a day for a family of five for five days, meaning approximately 42,000 people will be supported.
The Tánaiste said:
“The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains dire. Ireland is committed to doing what it can to ease the hunger and suffering facing people. Our partner Plan Ireland International has worked hard to ensure that this essential food aid has made it into Gaza. While much more is needed, this delivery will provide a lifeline to over 42,000 people who continue to live in intolerable conditions. Ireland is committed to continuing to ramp-up its humanitarian support for people in Gaza.”
This delivery of food comes a week after Ireland supported the delivery of 750 family tents for people in Gaza.
Ireland has provided over €35 million in support to the people of Palestine this year, and €89 million since October 2023.
