The Department of Transport hosted the third annual National Sustainable Mobility Forum in May 2025, continuing its commitment under the National Sustainable Mobility Policy (SMP) to engage stakeholders in shaping Ireland’s transition to a more sustainable transport system.
This year’s Forum marked a shift in format, with four half-day events, two held in person and two online, to facilitate equity of participation from a broad range of stakeholders. Approximately 160 stakeholders across the sustainable mobility sector including Local Authorities, transport agencies, Disabled People’s Organisations, representatives of Government departments, members of Public Participation Networks and other community representatives, youth groups and academics took part in the Forum events.
The 2025 Forum centred on the development of the next SMP Action Plan, which will guide sustainable mobility efforts from 2026 to 2030. Participants contributed to focused policy discussions on the themes of transport-oriented development, decarbonising urban transport networks, inclusive active travel infrastructure, public transport access, promoting shared transport modes, and data integration. These contributions have been captured in the Facilitator’s Report of the National Sustainable Mobility Forum 2025, which will inform the development of the forthcoming SMP Action Plan.
