Expressions of Interest for Disability Stakeholder Group membership

Minister of State with Responsibility for Disability, Anne Rabbitte T.D., is seeking to establish a new Disability Stakeholder Group (DSG). In order to find organisations and individuals to join the DSG an Expression of Interest process is being launched.

The press release is available here.

The DSG plays an important role in the monitoring of the Government’s disability policy and strategies, including monitoring the current National Disability Inclusion Strategy. More detailed information about the DSG is available above and in the documentation for this launch.

The next DSG with be the sixth group. It will continue to monitor the implementation of the National Disability Inclusion Strategy (now extended to run until the end of 2022). It carries out this role by:

  • Attending meeting of the NDIS Steering Group, which is chaired by Minister Rabbitte.
  • Attending Departmental Consultative Committees, which are groups, set up in Government Departments to monitor implementation of the NDIS and other disability related work.
  • Attending meetings of the DSG where issues are discussed and where the DSG’s reports to the NDIS Steering Group are agreed.

Minister Rabbitte is seeking DSG members with all kinds of experience of disability, including lived experience, professional experience and academic knowledge. Expressions of Interest are therefore sought from:

  • Disabled Persons Organisations
  • Individuals with lived experience of disability.
  • Organisations with expertise in disability issues and advocacy.
  • Individuals with relevant professional or academic expertise.

It would be good for the DSG to have members who represent the wide range of disability experiences in Ireland and expressions of interest are encouraged from individuals and organisations who may normally be most distanced from policy and legislation formation.

Expressions of Interest should be made by completing the application form below.

Applicants should also refer to the guidance document which give more details on the DSG and the role of members.

Both documents are available in Easy to Read versions.

The deadline for applications is 5pm on Monday 23 August 2021.
