Dáil na nÓg 2019

  • Dáil na nÓg, Ireland's youth parliament, will convene in Dáil Éireann on Saturday, 23 November at 10am. Ceann Comhairle Séan Ó Fearghaíl and Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Dr Katherine Zappone, will be in attendance
  • 168 youth delegates from 31 local Comhairle na nÓg groups will debate and discuss on the chosen theme of Climate Action in the Dáil chamber, to agree a two-year programme of work focusing on how young people in Ireland can take action to tackle climate change
  • Dáil na nÓg were invited to hold their 2019 meeting in the Houses of the Oireachtas as part of the #Dáil100 commemoration programme
  • Maxwells photography will issue photos from the event

Agenda:

9.45am - Media Invited to arrive at the Houses of the Oireachtas.

10am - Ceann Comhairle Séan Ó Fearghaíl will join 12 youth delegates for a tree planting ceremony. This will be symbolic of the event's theme of Climate Action.

11am - Opening ceremony with address from Ceann Comhairle and delegates.

12pm - 3.20pm - Private workshops.

3.20pm - Closing ceremony with address from Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Dr Katherine Zappone, and final inputs from delegates. Delegates vote on the future work programme, by manual count (a form of vote counting used in the House up to 2002). This will be the first time that young people will have the opportunity to vote in Dáil Éireann.

4pm - Event concludes.
