Minister for Education and Youth Helen McEntee TD, has today (THURS) visited the site of the new school building for Griffeen Community College, in Lucan, Co Dublin.
Minister McEntee said that she is very proud of the investment her department makes towards providing quality learning spaces for our young people.
She said:
“I am absolutely delighted to be here with you this morning on the site where the new permanent home for Griffeen Community College will soon take shape.”
The Minister expressed thanks to those who organised the occasion to mark such an exciting milestone for the school community, for Lucan and its surrounds. She paid tribute to the management team, teachers, and staff whose dedication to their students created a positive and inspiring learning environment from day one.
Minister McEntee said:
“Since its establishment in 2017, with a mere 16 students, Griffeen Community College has already made an enormous contribution to the educational life of Lucan. In a relatively short space of time, it has built a reputation where young people “learn with pride and progress with confidence.” It is clear that the school motto is embedded, valued and lived out every day, every term and every year as the school grows.
“The new building will provide more space and better working conditions for everyone, but it is the teachers and staff who will bring value to the bricks and mortar. It is the students who be the heartbeat and bring vibrant life to the building.”
Minister McEntee added that she looks forward to watching the new building come alive as a centre of learning and creativity.
The new building comes against a backdrop of continued investment by the department in building projects.
Since 2020, the Department of Education and Youth has invested:
- Over €1.6 billion supporting the completion of 312 school building projects with a further 98 currently in construction, in Dublin.
Across the country, the Department has invested more than €6 billion in school building projects across the country since 2020. This includes the completion of over 1,400 projects and over 400 school building projects currently underway, involving 40 new school buildings.
The Minister also visited Collinstown Park Community College in Clondalkin, Dublin, today.
Minister McEntee commended members of the school community and said:
“I would like to begin by expressing my sincere thanks to you all for inviting me to attend the official opening of your special education autism suite.
“You have always been proactive in our progression of an inclusive education system for all and have a proven track record of showing innovation, being resourceful and remaining opening minded when it comes to special education.”
