Minister for Education and Youth Hildegarde Naughton, and Minister of State for Special Education and Inclusion Michael Moynihan, have extended their best wishes to students beginning their State examinations today (Wednesday 3 June).
Approximately 147,000 students will sit this year’s Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied and Junior Cycle examinations in 5,860 main and over 11,600 special examination centres nationwide, including post-primary schools and other locations.
Minister Naughton said:
“As students across the country begin their Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied and Junior Cycle examinations, I want to extend my very best wishes to each and every one of them. Reaching this stage is a significant achievement, and every student should be immensely proud of what they have already accomplished. Getting to this point reflects years of hard work, commitment, resilience and determination, and that achievement deserves to be recognised.
“I understand that exams can be a challenging and stressful time. While exams are important, they do not define you or determine a young person’s future on their own. Each student has unique talents, strengths and ambitions, and there are many different pathways available to help achieve your goals.
“My message to students is to do your best, believe in yourselves and remember how much you have already achieved. Just as importantly, take care of your wellbeing over the coming weeks and look after one another. Support from friends, family and school communities can make a real difference during this period.
“I want to also acknowledge and thank the teachers, school leaders and wider school communities whose dedication and support have helped students reach this important milestone. I would also like to pay tribute to parents and guardians for the encouragement, guidance and support they provide throughout the school year.
“I wish all students every success in their examinations and every happiness as they take the next steps on their individual journeys.”
Minister Moynihan said:
“As students across the country commence their exams today, I want to wholeheartedly wish everyone the best of luck over the coming weeks. I know this can be a stressful time for the students and their families but try to remember all that you have achieved. Be proud of the work you've done so far and for reaching this point.
"Education is a lifelong journey, and these exams do not define you. While they may seem like the only option open to you to pursue a particular path in life, you will be surprised by what opportunities may arise down the line despite the outcome of your exams. This applies equally to those sitting the Junior Cycle exams and those facing the Leaving Cert. These exams are a milestone, not a final destination.
"Take it one paper at a time, and look after yourselves and each other. We are all rooting for you. The very best of luck."
