Key nitrates deadlines for 2025

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine wishes to remind farmers of some key nitrates deadlines for 2025.

Reminder – 2025 Organic Manure Movement deadlines

• ORGANIC MANURE EXPORTERS. All organic manure movements must be declared by the exporter within four days of the movement having taking place.
• ORGANIC MANURE IMPORTERS. To be considered valid, movements of organic manures that took place between the 01 July and 31 December 2025 must be verified by the importer by 14 January 2026.

Organic movements that were declared between 01 January and 30 June 2025 that were not verified by the importer by 14 July 2025, are not considered valid for 2025.

With the exception of a limited number of justified cases (e.g. deceased herdowner), declaration and verification of these movements must be done on-line via the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s organic nutrient movement app or the MyAgFood system.

If farmers are experiencing any difficulties declaring or verifying organic nutrient movements, they should email nitrates@agriculture.gov.ie or phone 053 9163425 by 14 January. The Department will then provide assistance.

Reminder to submit 2025 temporary movement of animals and land rental/short term grazing agreement records

Completed forms regarding the temporary movement of animals for grazing during 2025 (Record 4) or land rental/short-term grazing and forage agreements relating to 2025 (Record 5) must be submitted by 31 December 2025 by email to: nitrates@agriculture.gov.ie or by post to: Nitrates Section, Water and Air Quality Division, Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Johnstown Castle, Wexford, Y35 PN52.

The only accepted proof of postage is a Swift Post Receipt or a Registered Post Receipt.
