Minister of State with responsibility for Fisheries, Timmy Dooley TD, today announced the Budget 2026 allocation for the fisheries sector.
In welcoming the Budget 2026 supports for the fisheries sector, Minister Dooley said:
“I am pleased to announce that I have secured a significant budget of €157.7 million to support the Fisheries Sector for 2026. This funding will continue to provide supports across key capital infrastructure projects in our Fishery Harbour Centres, the Seafood Development Programme as well as supporting the important work carried out by our marine agencies towards the economic and environmental sustainability of the seafood sector.
“Last week’s International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) recommendations on 2026 fish stocks particularly those of greatest importance to Ireland will pose a very significant challenge to the Irish Fishing Sector. The Department and the Government will work with the industry to find a pathway through to longer term viability and sustainability of our coastal communities.”
On capital infrastructure projects, Minister Dooley said:
“I am happy to announce that continuing investment in our marine infrastructure has been provided for in the budget this year. This investment will provide immediate tangible benefits by improving harbour facilities, boosting safety and efficiency and by providing ongoing access and support for our fleet and producers. In the longer term, the investment builds on the essential foundations already laid for a more productive, sustainable and economically viable fishing sector.”
Commenting on the Seafood Development Programme, Minister Dooley said:
“I am pleased to say that provision has been made in this budget to fund the continued implementation of our Seafood Development Programme, and to ensure we fully access and utilise the EU funding available to us under the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF). This will support the important work undertaken by our agencies to support the economic and environmental sustainability of our seafood sector and ensure that vital funding supports to industry will continue to be available in 2026.”
