In May 2024, the Government set up a Dublin City Taskforce to develop a plan for making Dublin City Centre a thriving, attractive, and safe place to live, work, do business, and visit.
Who’s Involved?
The Taskforce includes representatives from:
- Public services
- Community health
- Business and unions
- Arts, culture, and tourism
- Private sector experts in architecture, urban design, and planning
What’s Been Done?
- The Taskforce Report, published in October 2024, recommended “10 Big Moves” for regeneration, focusing on:
- Revitalising O’Connell Street and surrounding areas
- Tackling dereliction
- Improving services and security
- An Interdepartmental Group has prepared a Roadmap for Delivery and is overseeing implementation.
How Will It Be Delivered?
- A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) under Dublin City Council will lead delivery.
- Supported by National Development Plan (NDP) funding.
- Dedicated delivery structures are now in place within Dublin City Council.
What’s Next?
The Programme for Government commits to using this taskforce model for other cities.
Cork City is next, with a tailored terms of reference currently being developed.
