This is the General Scheme of a Bill, as approved for publication by the government, providing for:
- an entitlement of maternity protection to local authority elected members
- the possibility of the appointment by co-option of an individual as a temporary substitute for an elected member in specified circumstances.
The Government has also approved the drafting of the Local Government (Maternity Protection and Other Measures for Local Authority Elected Members) Bill 2022 based on the General Scheme.
