Notice of Appointment to the Board of the Residential Tenancies Board

The Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage on 04 September 2025 formally appointed one candidate to the Board of the Residential Tenancies Board, with effect from 08 September 2025

The Minister has appointed the following candidate:

Mark McManus from 08 September 2025 to 07 September 2028

This brings the Board membership to 12 persons.

The Residential Tenancies Board is an independent statutory agency established in 2004 under the Residential Tenancies Act and its main functions are:

  • to maintain a national register of tenancies,
  • to facilitate the resolution of disputes between tenants and landlords,
  • to take action to ensure compliance with rental law,
  • to provide relevant information to the public, tenants and landlords to ensure tenancies run smoothly; to provide reliable research, data and insights to inform policy; and
  • to provide advice to the Minister on the rental sector.

Originally limited to private tenancies, expansion in their functions over recent years has seen the RTBs remit expand to now include:

  • the private rental sector, approved housing body sector, cost rental sector, and student-specific accommodation sector
