- use links in context. Don't link off one word. Instead, link off a phrase which explains what you can do by clicking on the link
- do not use vague words or phrases like “click here” or “more information”
- make sure the alternative text (alt text) of the link says what the link is and where it is going. For example, “link to National Strategy on Climate Change”
- do not include punctuation in links
- people scan pages when they look at them first. They are drawn to links because they are a different colour. Therefore, you should only use links where they are needed. Lists of links have proven to be distracting for users
