The Chief State Solicitor is the senior civil servant and non-political head of the Office. She is the State’s principal solicitor and has a wide range of legal and managerial responsibilities as the professional and administrative head of the Office. The main legal functions are to act as solicitor to Ireland, the Attorney General and government departments and offices.
The Chief State Solicitor has responsibility for the overall management of the Office in a manner that ensures the effective and efficient provision of legal services. The position is equivalent to that of Secretary General and the Chief State Solicitor is the Accounting Officer for the vote of the Office.
