Rural Opportunity

Rural Opportunity showcased some of the best examples of how rural communities are accessing government supports and funds to shape their own destinies. This was demonstrated through a coordinated series of regional events, announcements and video case studies.

Attendees at the events were briefed on how funding can be accessed for successful rural, or community, projects. They also heard what steps they need to take to get support for their projects.

Rural Opportunity events took place in Kilkenny, Longford, Clare, Donegal and Cork.

Community groups interested in accessing government funding for rural projects were invited to attend.

Attendees at the regional events heard from representatives of rural communities who successfully availed of supports and delivered a programme or project in their locality. These projects have made a positive impact in terms of community development and resilience, enterprise or job development, tourism development and similar themes.

It is hoped that in communicating these success stories that other communities will be inspired to develop a vision for their areas and will access the supports available through Project Ireland 2040 and various other government initiatives.

Rural Opportunity is a cross-government initiative led by the Department of Rural and Community Development. Further information on its funding schemes can be found here.
