Community Safety

Community safety is about people being safe and feeling safe in their own community. Ireland is generally regarded as a safe country, with relatively low crime rates and a general feeling of safety and security. However, this is not the case in every community and some people can experience a different reality. We want to make every corner of Ireland a better, safer, more peaceful place for everyone.

19 November 2025

The National Office for Community Safety held the first in person engagements in relation to developing a new National Strategy for Improving Community Safety this week in Athlone and Galway. These sessions were co-hosted by Westmeath and Galway County/Galway City Local Community Safety Partnerships. Attendees travelled from as far afield as Donegal, Clare, Longford, and Offaly, in addition to many local attendees to participate in very lively and interactive discussions.

There are many other ways to have your voice heard in relation to the development of this strategy, including attending further in person consultation events over the next two weeks and making a written submission by close of business Friday 28 November. Click here for further information.
