Planning and Development Act 2024

On 17 October 2024 the President of Ireland signed the new Planning and Development Act 2024 (PDA2024) into law.

The PDA2024 updates a quarter of a century of planning legislation to meet Ireland’s ambitions and challenges into the coming decades.

The new legislation will be commenced on a phased basis. In the meantime, all aspects of planning continue to be covered by the Planning and Development Act 2000 (as amended).

The Government has approved an Implementation Plan for the Planning and Development Act 2024. The Implementation Plan outlines the commencement schedule for the Act, including the range of initiatives to support training and engagement for the planning sector to prepare for the phased transition to the Planning and Development Act 2024.

In parallel, work is underway to revise and update the associated Regulations underpinning the new Act. This website will be used to communicate all important updates on the commencement of the Act, including consultation relating to regulations over the coming months.
