The Treaty, 1921: Records from the Archives

This major exhibition opens up significant historical records, official documents and private papers for the first time in the history of the State, including the first public presentation of the Treaty document.

Creative Climate Conversations/ Creative Wall

Over the 3 days, artist Lisa Fingleton will produce a large-scale Interactive drawing project (2.4m x 33m) which will respond live to the solutions for climate change offered by farmers. For the last 6 months, Lisa has been working with 10 farming families on the Dingle Peninsula on Corca Dhuibhne Inbhuanaithe: A Creative Imagining is a Creative Climate Action project working with 10 farming families on the Dingle Peninsula. The aim is to identify ways in which farmers might diversify and adapt in the face of climate change.

Junk Kouture is a year-round programme for secondary schools that challenges students aged 13-18 to create couture fashion from 100% recycled materials, before ultimately showcasing their creations to a global audience.

1.30pm – 2pm Native Irish Cattle Breeds (Intangible Cultural Heritage)

Join Greg Walsh for a talk on Native Irish Cattle Breeding, which is inscribed on Ireland’s National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The Native Irish cattle breeds are Kerry Cattle, Dexter Cattle, Irish Maol/Moiled Cattle and Droimeann Cattle.

Following the on-stage presentation on Headford Lacemaking, members of the public will have the opportunity to participate in an interactive lacemaking workshop hosted by the Headford Lace Project.

Headford Lacemaking is inscribed on Ireland’s National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

1.45pm – 2.45pm Field Exchanges (Creative Ireland)

Field Exchange will run a beeswax candle-making workshop.

Wednesday, 21 September

11am – 11.30am Mummers Performance (Creative Ireland)

Modern Day Mummers, dressed in their distinctive straw head-dresses, recreate the mumming tradition that many people would have remembered from their own childhoods in rural Ireland.

12.00pm – 1.00pm Creative Climate Conversations: Corca Dhuibhne Inbhuanaithe and Workers Villages (Creative Ireland)

Workers’ Villages is a commemoration of the legacy of three Bord na Mona villages in the Irish midlands. Dingle farmers: Corca Dhuibhne Inbhuanaithe – A Creative Imagining: This project creatively looks at ways in which farmers on the Dingle peninsula can diversify to address climate change.

1pm – 1.45pm Irish Traditional Music (Intangible Cultural Heritage)

Come join us for a lively performance by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann. This performance will include an interactive demonstration of Sean Nós Singing and include brodhrán and fiddle playing.

Irish Traditional Music is inscribed on Ireland’s National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Modern Day Mummers will use the demo area to show the public how the mumming costumes were made traditionally, using locally harvested straw.

12.45pm – 2.45pm Letterpress (Intangible Cultural Heritage)

Join the National Print Museum for an interactive workshop on letterpress printing. Participants will learn all about letterpress printing and have the opportunity to try it out for themselves. The workshop will also include some crafts for children to enjoy. Letterpress Printing is inscribed on Ireland’s National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage

Join archivist Ger Hasset for a talk on the founding and practice of Headford lacemaking. The talk will be followed by an interactive workshop taking place in the demo area.

Learn about loy digging and the different types of loys used in this traditional practice to till soil. Although the use of the loy in farming is no longer a common practice, it continues in use today as part of a heritage sport of loy digging. Loy Digging is inscribed on Ireland’s National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
