As well as contributing to the wider goal of a net-zero emissions future and safeguarding energy security, offshore wind has the potential to revolutionise our energy systems.
Ireland has one of the best offshore wind resources in the world. Maximising offshore wind energy is a significant priority for Ireland’s government, and the State has recently been accelerating policy in this area.
To deliver our offshore wind energy ambitions, we have implemented a plan-led approach which is being overseen by a cross-Government Offshore Wind Delivery Taskforce. This will ensure that development of offshore renewable energy is delivered through a number of overlapping phases in a planned, strategic, economical and sustainable way, which will also guide investment in this sector.
