Foreshore Applications

From 17 July 2023, foreshore applications will no longer be accepted by the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment. All new applications for consents in the maritime area must be submitted to the Maritime Area Regulatory Authority (MARA). Application forms and guidance are available on the Maritime Area Regulatory Authority website.

Seaweed applications are not under active consideration by Foreshore.

Since its establishment, applicants may apply to MARA for a licence to harvest seaweed, in accordance with Schedule 7 of the Maritime Area Planning Act 2021, which provides for the Maritime Usages which may be undertaken pursuant to a Licence.

A facility to search foreshore applications is available with the following search criteria:

• text search box - search by title of licence application
• county – search by location county
• date received – search by year of date received
• status – search by status of application

When using the search facility, enter the search criteria and then click on the “Search” box underneath. Use the “Clear filters” link to clear existing search criteria.
