Following the appointment of Ms. Norma Foley TD as Minister for Education and in accordance with the Public Service Management Act 1997, we are developing a new Statement of Strategy for the period 2021-2023. We will continue to take a whole of system approach to strategic planning and development to ensure a coherent approach across the continuum of the education system to benefit students in primary and post-primary education.
Our strategy will be informed by the Programme for Government, key Government priorities, policy frameworks and other significant issues, and will set out our high-level goals for the period 2021-2023. The intention is that the new Statement of Strategy will build on progress to-date, allow for the implementation of recently introduced reforms and continue to improve the quality and effectiveness of primary and post primary education for all students.
The Statement of Strategy will define our vision, mission and goals for that period, as we look to build upon the progress made on our last Statement of Strategy 2019 – 2021. It will set out our high-level goals as well as the strategies and high-level actions to be progressed to achieve our mission: To facilitate individuals, through learning, to achieve their full potential and contribute to Ireland’s social, economic and cultural development.
We will develop annual work programmes, framed by the goals of the Statement of Strategy, which will outline our planned high level activities for the year.
This work will be informed by our experience of supporting services during the Covid-19 pandemic and the planning and services needed for the post-pandemic period. We will learn from this experience to see how education and assessment can best be delivered, how those at risk of educational disadvantage can be appropriately supported, and how we can work in partnership with all stakeholders to advance our shared agenda.
