We are conducting a market engagement exercise in relation to the Galway Mayo Telecommunications Network.
This market engagement exercise is primarily aimed at economic operators that are telecommunications service providers and other entities or organisations that may have the expertise to manage, market and maintain an operational telecommunications network.
Analysis of the responses will assist us in determining the most appropriate procurement option to pursue (i.e., whether the subject matter is a Services Concession or a Managed Services Agreement) or any other alternative approaches.
Following completion of this process, we intend to launch a procurement process to appoint a permanent Managed Services Entity to manage the network, and it is expected that the process will take approximately 12-18 months to conclude.
The Galway Mayo Telecommunications Network consists of 132 km of ducting and fibre in the main trunk, which runs alongside the main Bord Gáis Éireann gas pipeline from Ballymoneen, Co. Galway to Bellanaboy, Co. Mayo. There is a further 22.3 km of ducting in a spur to the outskirts of Castlebar and Westport although there is currently no fibre in this element.
You are invited to submit a response to the market engagement document above. Interested parties should note that they are required to provide comment/feedback on the Departmental proposal outlined in Section 6 of the document and also provide responses to the questions set out in that Section. In addition, respondents are advised, when submitting their responses, to provide a redacted version appropriate for publication here on gov.ie.
The closing date for submissions is 5.30pm 16 February 2024
Submissions should be sent by email to DCO_GM@decc.gov.ie or by post to:
