The aim of this consultation is to gather feedback from stakeholders and members of the public and on the Department’s draft Plant Health and Biosecurity Strategy 2026-2030.

Background

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine commenced the process of developing its second Plant Health and Biosecurity Strategy in 2025.

The new strategy aims to build upon the success of the first Plant Health and Biosecurity Strategy 2020-2025 in the areas of risk anticipation, risk surveillance and management and risk awareness and communication and sets out strategic goals, objectives and actions for the next five years to protect plant health and biosecurity in Ireland.

The new strategy aligns with the Department’s Statement of Strategy 2025-2028 and aims to complement the forthcoming National Farmed Animal Biosecurity Strategy 2025-2030.

Mr. Martin Heydon T.D., Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, invites submissions, observations and comments on the draft Plant Health and Biosecurity Strategy.

How to make a submission

Submissions should be submitted by email to: PHBStrategy2026-2030@agriculture.gov.ie by 5.00pm on Friday, 9 January 2026.

The closing date for submissions is 5:00pm Friday, 9 January 2026.
