The Official Languages Act 2003 was enacted on 14 July 2003. The primary objective of the Act is to ensure better availability and a higher standard of public services through Irish. This will be principally achieved by placing an obligation on State Departments and public bodies through a statutory planning framework, known as a "scheme".
The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food is committed to facilitating to the maximum degree possible customers who wish to transact business with it through the medium of Irish. The Department's Scheme under the Official Languages Act outlines how it is progressively developing the services it provides to customers through Irish.
