Minister Heydon and Minister Dooley issue reminder of the Fishing and Aquaculture Registered Vessel Fuel Support Scheme closing date (12 June 2026)

Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon TD, and Minister of State with responsibility for Fisheries and the Marine, Timmy Dooley TD, has today reminded the owners of registered fishing and aquaculture vessels that the closing date for the Fishing and Aquaculture Registered Vessel Fuel Support Scheme is Friday, 12 June.

Minister Heydon said:

“I’m delighted with the interest shown by vessel owners to date in the Fishing and Aquaculture Registered Vessel Fuel Support Scheme. Over 400 vessels owners have applied to date and Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), who are administering the scheme on behalf of my Department, report ongoing participation in their online information sessions and use of their grants helpline.”

This scheme, with a budget ceiling of €15 million, was introduced as a result of the exceptional pressure that exists on vessel owners due to the dramatic increase in the price of fuel in recent months.

Minister Dooley added:

“The application process is very straightforward so I would urge vessel owners who have not yet applied to do so in the coming days. The payments will support the fishing industry during this particularly busy time in the fishing calendar. I’d like to alert applicants that the following amendment has been made to the Scheme. In addition to fuel purchased within the Republic of Ireland, fuel purchased outside of Ireland is now eligible under the scheme. This amendment is being applied retrospectively and will benefit those vessel owners who fish in waters further from Ireland. BIM has confirmed that those who have already submitted an application will be contacted and given an opportunity to amend their application if applicable.”

Concluding, Minister Heydon said:

“It is a critically important time of the year for all our food producers, including fishermen and women. I want to ensure that support is directed to those impacted by the price increase and who are actively engaged in producing our food.”
