Minister Heydon participates in AgriFish Council meeting in Warsaw

Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon, is today representing Ireland at the Informal AgriFish Council meeting in Warsaw hosted by the Polish Presidency of the EU.

Minister Heydon said:

“This meeting provides a valuable opportunity for further discussions with my EU counterparts on the importance of the CAP, as we expect the Commission’s proposals for the next EU Budget (MFF) to be forthcoming next month.

“The policy focus of the meeting is generational renewal. We need a robust and dedicated CAP Budget to support farm viability, competitiveness and innovation. As well as specific supports for young trained farmers, the full toolbox of CAP measures is needed to promote farming as an attractive and viable future career for the next generation.”

On the margins of the meeting, Minister Heydon will meet with Jacob Jensen, the Danish Minister of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, ahead of the start of the Danish EU Presidency in July.
