What producers must do
Eggs may be marketed under the terms 'eggs from caged hens', 'free range eggs', 'barn eggs' or 'organic eggs' provided the regulations on the specified production method have been met. Producers using these terms and farming method indicators must be registered with the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and comply with relevant legislation.
Food production standards
For table egg production there are specific requirements laid down in EU and national legislation such as salmonella monitoring, hygiene standards and marketing standards.
