National Pig Census

What the National Pig Census is

Pig keepers must count the number of animals present on their farms each year and record the details on a census form. They are legally obliged to return their census form each year to the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine.

The date chosen for the 2019 Pig Census was Sunday, 13 October, 2019.

What you must do

Pig keepers registered with the department receive a census return in the post to record the number of pigs on the farm. It should be returned immediately in the prepaid envelope provided.

Herd keepers were informed that registered herds that had recorded no pigs being kept in either 2018 or 2019 would be made inactive on the Department’s systems as would herds from which no return was received for Census 2019.
