Information Note
The Commission of Investigation (Certain matters relative to a disability service in the South East and related matters), "the Farrelly Commission", final report on costs is hereby published.
The submission of this final report on costs concluded the work of the Commission of Investigation and in accordance with section 43 of the Commissions of Investigation Act 2004, the Commission was formally dissolved.
Responsibility for the Commission of Investigation over the course of its tenure fell in turn to two Ministries, i.e. the Minister for Health from the Commission’s establishment in 2017 until the functions transferred to the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth on 1 March 2023.
Following a due diligence exercise with respect to the costs incurred, the figure outlined in the Commission’s report together with other costs, including Ward of Court costs and costs associated with archiving and winding up, brings the total cost of the Commission of Investigation to €14.5m.
