Onshore Renewable Energy
Ireland’s transition to clean homegrown energy continues to accelerate, with onshore renewable electricity generation, particularly wind and solar, currently being the cornerstone of this transformation.
Ireland is a wind success story - we receive more of our electricity from onshore wind farms than anyone else in Europe and we’re amongst the global leaders in integrating variable renewables onto the electricity grid.
Solar electricity is highly complementary to wind energy and our solar electricity sector is growing at speed, already providing the third highest share of indigenous electricity generation to the grid. Additionally, thousands of Irish homes and businesses are now generating their own clean homegrown energy, reducing energy bills and contributing to national climate targets.
As electricity demand grows, onshore wind and solar will be essential in securing our energy future. To achieve our ambitious targets, Government has a number of crucial policies and support schemes in place. To learn more about the various policies and support schemes, click on the links below.
