The Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment (DCEE) publishes notices in local newspapers to inform the public where a Prospecting Licence is about to be granted or renewed or where a State Mining Licence / Lease / Permission is about to be granted. Mining is subject to planning permission, so an opportunity to make submissions or objections is also provided through the planning process.
DCEE also publishes Environmental Screening Determinations and Decisions related to mineral exploration activities.
