Making home energy upgrades more affordable and accessible

Under the Programme for Government, Ireland is committed to providing warmer, more comfortable and energy-efficient homes while reducing energy bills, cutting emissions and lowering reliance on fossil fuels. The National Residential Retrofit Plan, supports this commitment by helping homeowners and communities upgrade their homes with insulation, heat pumps, solar energy and deep retrofits.

Supports include expanded Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) grant schemes, a reformed Warmer Homes Scheme for households at risk of energy poverty, a national network of SEAI One Stop Shops, low-cost retrofit loans, reduced VAT on heat pumps and solar panels, and Increased investment in retrofit skills. These measures have already supported more than 244,000 home energy upgrades since 2019.

The National Residential Retrofit Plan delivers the Programme for Government's commitment to warmer, more energy-efficient homes by expanding grants and supports for home energy upgrades. Backed by record investment, the plan helps households reduce energy costs, improve comfort and contribute to Ireland's climate and energy goals.
