The Principal Officer leading the Air, Noise and EPA Licencing Section is responsible for policy and legislation and works with the Environment and Climate Research and Advisory Section, across:
- Environmental Protection Agency industrial licensing (Industrial Emissions / Integrated Pollution Control) including Environment (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2025 and EIA Extraction of Peat (infringement)
- Environmental Noise Directive and noise nuisance under the EPA Act 1992
- Ambient Air Quality (including Air Pollution (Amendment) Bill, 2025, solid fuel regulations, ambient air quality monitoring network)
- Clean Air Strategy (including annual progress reports to government)
- Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS)
- Fluorinated Gases (F-gases)
- Fuel Quality Directive
- Mercury (Minamata Convention / dental amalgam)
- Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) (Stockholm Convention)
- Contained use / deliberate release / transboundary movement of genetically modified organisms
- Transposition of the IED 2.0
- Transposition of the revised Ambient Air Quality Directive
- Transposition of the Environmental Crime Directive
