Principal Officer, Marine Strategic Policy Section

The Principal Officer, Marine Planning Policy Section has responsibility for policy development and implementation of general marine planning including:

  • National Marine Planning Framework (NMPF)
  • Designated Marine Area Plans (DMAPs)
  • Marine Planning Policy Statement (MPPS)
  • Supporting guidelines

They oversee a number of stakeholder and co-ordination groups and leads on EU, UK and international engagements in respect of marine spatial planning.

They are also responsible for:

  • Delivering the next DMAP for offshore renewable energy
  • Publishing Ministerial Guidelines for DMAPs
  • Developing education programmes for primary and secondary schools
  • Preparation and enactment of primary amendments and regulations to give full effect to the Maritime Area Planning (MAP) Act and provide legislative support to all departments/sectors in relation to the marine area to ensure a robust marine planning regime
