John Kennedy

John Kennedy has responsibility at Principal Officer level for the development of projects which enhance Ireland’s cultural patrimony, including:

  • liaison with National Cultural Institutions re
    • indemnity arrangements in relation to cultural goods imported on loan from abroad for temporary exhibition
    • acquisitions for the national collections and the administration of S.1003 of the Taxes Consolidation Act, 1997 re donations of cultural goods.
    • regulations and licensing in respect of the international movement of cultural goods.
  • Support to Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann in relation to the promotion of traditional music and dance in Ireland and abroad.
  • Support for certain specialist regional and local museums:

Hunt Museum, National Print Museum, The James Joyce Centre, National Maritime Museum, Science Gallery, Foynes Flying Boat Museum, Archbishop Marsh's Library, Irish Manuscripts Commission and The Cork Butter Museum.

  • Annual support schemes operated by the Department in respect of community-based festivals and summer schools, cross border co-operation, regional museum expansion and loans from the national collections for local exhibitions.
