Ministers O’Donovan and McConalogue share news of key legacy projects in Adare receiving support
The Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan TD, today announced significant funding from his Department of up to €5.7m to help ensure that the 2027 Ryder Cup produces a lasting legacy in Adare, in the wider Limerick region and in Ireland as a whole.
A number of key legacy projects in Adare have been identified which will be of future benefit to the Adare community and to the wider county as a whole, including:
- Refurbishment and extension of Adare Village Hall
- Refurbishment of Adare Heritage Centre
- Enhancement of the Adare Public Realm
- Tree planting sustainability initiative.
The Legacy Projects within Adare Village collectively aim to position Adare as a key cultural and tourist hub in Limerick and the Mid West, enhancing its appeal for both residents and visitors both during and after Ryder Cup in 2027 and benefiting the community of Adare for generations to come. These projects will be delivered in collaboration with Limerick City and County Council.
The Ryder Cup is expected to be one of the largest sporting events ever held in Ireland. A key Sustainability Initiative for this event, will be a major planting scheme of native Irish trees (within Adare and across the county of Limerick), which over their lifetime will significantly offset the carbon footprint generated by the hosting of the event.
Speaking today Minister O’Donovan said:
“I am delighted to announce that my Department will provide funding for these legacy projects in the village of Adare. Adare is a beautiful location for the next Ryder Cup and I want to showcase Adare village at its very best for both residents and visitors alike, not just during the event but for many years to come. I am conscious that large scale events can have some short-term impacts for those living in the area and that is why legacy projects such as these are a key part of the Government’s policy in relation to the hosting of Major International Sports Events.”
Minister of State McConalogue added:
“Ensuring a lasting legacy from Major Sporting events is a key priority for the Government, and I am pleased that funding is being provided to ensure that the people of Adare and the wider region will benefit from next year’s Ryder Cup, not just in 2027 but for many years to come.”
