The Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan TD, has congratulated Irish architect Níall McLaughlin, on being awarded the Royal Gold Medal for Architecture.
Recognised as one of architecture's highest honours, the award acknowledges Níall's resounding impact and lifetime achievement in advancing architectural practice, thinking, writing and education. Níall represented Ireland at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2016 with a beautiful piece called ‘Losing Myself’, a testament to his interest in the social function of architecture and how buildings and spaces should serve those who use them.
Minister O’Donovan said:
“I am delighted to congratulate Níall McLaughlin on this important achievement. Following representation for Ireland at the 15th International Venice Architecture Biennale in 2016, with support from Culture Ireland, Níall has continued to excel as an architect, educator and writer. It is heartening to see superlative quality of contemporary Irish architecture being recognised on the world stage.”
