Minister Patrick O’Donovan today announces over €1.4 million in funding for Culture Ireland’s promotion of Irish arts globally

Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan TD, has announced funding of over €1.4 million for the promotion of Irish arts globally through Culture Ireland’s Regular Grants Programme.

The funding will benefit 208 projects taking place over 44 countries, covering architecture, circus, dance, film, literature, music, theatre and visual arts.

Announcing the grants, Minister O’Donovan said:

As the Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, it gives me great pleasure to announce this Culture Ireland grant round of over €1.4 million. These projects will generate new opportunities and audiences internationally, demonstrating the true diversity of contemporary Irish arts.”

  • Architecture: Irish Architecture Foundation presenting 'To Not Design Is To Cost the Earth' Tour (UK)
  • Circus: Company Gee-Gee presenting S(h)tick (UK), Presentation of Tri-Fabrica at Mais Imaginarius Festival (Portugal), Jazzville Productions presenting The Most Dangerous Animal in the World (Spain), Darragh McLoughlin performing at the International Performing Arts Festival ConTempo (Lithuania), Waterford Spraoi Performance at National Eisteddfod of Wales (UK), Street performances from Fizz & Chips, Logy Logan and Missy Impossible at Tallinn Fringe (Estonia).
  • Dance: United Fall presenting Birdboy (Turkey), Instant Dissidence presenting Dancing With Strangers: From Palestine To Ireland (Croatia), Teać Damsa presenting MÁM by Michael Keegan-Dolan (Canada), Flora Fauna Project presenting The Peace Process (Sweden, Finland)
  • Film: support towards attendance by Irish filmmakers at significant international film festivals such as Irish Film Festival Cardiff (UK), Irish Film Festival, Bilbao (Spain) and IFTUK’S Irish Pride Film Festival (UK)
  • Literature: Irish authors appearing at various international literary festivals such as Festival Internacional de Poesía Los Confines, (Honduras), the Kistrech International Poetry Festival, (Kenya), the Athens Book Fair (Greece), IrishFest Casalattico (Italy), the 36º Medellin International Poetry Festival (Columbia), Buenos Aires International Book Fair (Argentina) and the Lyon international Literature Festival Fabula Literary Festival, (France)
  • Music: Support for international tours across the world covering a range of artists and genres including Séamus and Caoimhe Uí Fhlatharta (UK, France), Billow Wood (USA), Junior Brother (UK, Belgium), Gatehouse (Germany), Tulua (Canada), Just Mustard (USA, Canada), Quentin Cooper & Floriane Blancke (Japan), Dug (USA, Canada, UK, Netherlands), Elaine Howley (Austria, Switzerland, Belgium).
  • Theatre: Support for international tours, including Pan Pan (Denmark), Druid Theatre (USA), Dead Centre Theatre Company (UK, Netherlands), Dan Colley and Riverbank Arts Centre (USA), Sunday’s Child (Canada), Branar (Australia, UK) and Malaprop Theatre (Bulgaria)
  • Visual Arts: International exhibitions by Irish artists including Deirdre O'Mahony (Spain), Christopher Colm Morrin (Scotland), Orla Barry (Belgium), Sheila Flaherty (Germany, Canada), Susan Leen (Germany), Sonia Shiel (USA) and David O’Reilly (Germany).
  • Multidisciplinary: Continued support towards the programme of Irish arts and culture at key festivals and venues including Cáceres Irish Fleadh Festival (Spain), Lorient Interceltic Festival (France), Starptelpa Performance Festival (Latvia), The Irish Cultural Centre Hammersmith (UK) and The Halifax Busker Festival (USA).
