Multi-Annual Reviews of RTÉ and TG4

In accordance with section 124 of the Broadcasting Act 2009, Coimisiún na Meán, formerly the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland (BAI), carries out a review of the public funding of RTÉ and TG4 every five years.

As part of the review, Coimisiún na Meán makes a recommendation ‘as to the requisite level of public funding required to permit the corporation to fulfil its public service objects’. It makes its public funding recommendations and report to the Minister.

The Minister then submits both documents to Government, which then publishes a response to the recommendations.

The General Scheme of the Broadcasting (Amendment) Bill proposes to make significant amendments to the multi-annual review process.
