As Head of the Department’s Civil Defence Branch, the Principal has responsibility for Civil Defence at national level. In this context he/she ensures that the Civil Defence Branch provides policy direction, centralised training through the Civil Defence College, administrative support and guidance and centralised procurement of major items of uniform and equipment in support of local authority Civil Defence efforts. It is also the Principal's responsibility to work with local authorities and other national and statutory bodies to promote Civil Defence and to facilitate an effective second line response to emergencies at local, regional & national level. David also have responsibility for the Department’s liasion with organisations and members of the public who request the support of the Defence Forces for non-security and community events.
