X (Formerly known as Twitter)

The Department of Defence's X presence (formerly known as Twitter) is managed by the department’s Press Office.

If you follow us, you can expect tweets covering some or all of the following:

  • press releases
  • alerts about new content on our website
  • links to official publications relating to the work of the department
  • event information
  • updates from the department
  • other practical information on services available through the department
  • emergency communications

Who we follow

The department will follow other government agencies, as well as any accounts followed by our audience, or accounts of interest to our followers.

The Press Office reserves the right to determine whether or not an account should be followed.

Reposts

Reposts are not endorsements of an opinion or comment.

The Department of Defence reposts third parties where they are a government department or office (including international or multilateral government), or a related organisation.

Other third parties may only be reposted in exceptional circumstances and for the direct benefit of our followers. This will be determined by the Press Office on a case-by-case basis.

@posts/Replies and Direct Messages

The department welcomes engagement with our X posts. Failure to engage with a third party post should not be viewed as a refusal to comment on a particular issue.

Private/Personal Details

Please do not include any personal/private information in your X post or Direct Message (DM) to us.

Reporting/Blocking

The department reserves the right to report the following to X and block the relevant account:

  • accounts that impersonate the Department of Defence in any way
  • abusive or spam posts

Availability

Our X account may occasionally be unavailable. The Department accepts no responsibility for lack of service due to X downtime.
