Bernie McNally

The Secretary General is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the department's mission and high level goals with a focus on supporting and overseeing delivery of an education system that meets learners’ needs. In addition, The Secretary General provides leadership in driving reform and innovation across the education sector. Bernie has been the Secretary General of the Department of Education since 2022.

The mission of the department is to facilitate individuals through learning, to achieve their full potential and contribute to Ireland's social, cultural and economic development.
